We had our first meeting last night! A big thanks goes out to everyone who could make it. We were fortunate enough to be joined by Mary Northern from P.I.E. (People Involved in Education) which is the non-profit behind Sand Ridge Charter School and Sweet Home Charter School. She gave us some great advice and encouragement. Some items/plans of action from the power point will be changed. For example the tour of the building on Hill St. has been postponed. Our plan of action is also a bit different. We will be trying to contact an existing non-profit to form a charter school rather than start our own non-profit/tax exempt company.
The one thing you can do now is talk to everyone you know about a Charter School coming to Albany. Get them excited about a new CHOICE in the education of their children. Have them e-mail to be added to our update list for upcoming meetings and to stay informed. Over the next week or so we will be trying to get some printing donated so we can print up flyers to hand out at public events. I will keep you updated on that process. If you know anyone that can help in the advertising/printing industry please let me know. We would be happy to feature them as a sponsor on our flyers. :)
Do you have connections on the school board? In the charter school world? With local businesses? How can you put those connections to work to help start a charter school?
